| Why am I thankful? Let me count the ways... |

| | thankful | ] | It's Thanksgiving again, and the holiday season has begun. Ads and commercials are everywhere. Retailers are trying to get us out of bed to start shopping at 4am. and I wonder...do people remember what Thanksgiving is really about? Why do we always crave more? Why are we so dissatisfied with what we already have? I, for one, am glad to have a day during which I can stop, reflect, and think about all that I have. And I am thankful. Here are just a few:
- my amazing family (yes, including extended); they are always there for me, even when I don't want them to be, and even though we have our disagreements, I know that it's only because they care about me and want the best for me. I am always so amazed at how wonderful they think I am because I, in turn, find them absolutely amazing. My brother and cousins can alternately be fun and "deep," but nothing can tear us apart. my parents are incredibly supportive of everything i want to do and pay the bills (for the most part).
- my wonderful friends: the ones who have been with me through thick and thin and who continue to support me and call me once in a while just to make sure I'm doing alright even if we don't have every class together or if we don't even live in the same state anymore.
- having a home
- having food to eat
- being able to go to college and pursue what i really want to do
- the kids I've taught or tutored who are eager to learn and help me maintain my faith in humanity and the power of education
- having a warm bed to sleep in at night
- a few good professors who remind me what learning is really about and actually care about their students
- being able to study abroad this past summer
Of course, there are many more things and people to be thankful for, so just take a moment and remind yourself of all of your blessings. Happy Thanksgiving! |

hey everyone. my time in Spain is about to come to an end. Monday night I leave for Madrid, and Tuesday afternoon, I fly to Rome. 2 days in Rome, 2 days in Florence, and a day in the Cinque Terre, then back to Rome and Houston via London. it's been a long and short 3 months. sometimes it feels like time is going by really fast, but other times it seems slow. It's weird. Spain is different from what I expected it to be in many ways. more posts when I'm not in Spain anymore. haha |
